The Kingdom Assignment - Part 2

As promised, we had our Kingdom Assignment volunteers return after one month and give us an update on what they have done or are planning to do with the $100 to further God's Kingdom. Following is a summary of what they had to say as well as the audio of their reports.

Kelly used $20 to purchase a gift for a hometown friend who recently underwent surgery and gave $80 to Pioneers, a ministry to street kids in Calcutta. An email from Kelly giving the details of her report is in the comments section of this post.
Note: the audio of Kelly's report starts midway.

First JoAnn doubled the money to $200. Then she gave $75 to Trans World Radio for a shortwave radio for the Church in China, $55.20 to Light of Life Mission for Easter dinner and $68 to Angel Tree for a children's Christian Camp.

Matt & Liz plan to donate their combined $200 to a future Christian coffeeshop for South Oakland proposed by Greg Voss.

Sue donated $25 to the Morrison Family Fund and $75 to Tunes for Troops. She also asked all to consider gathering items such as old CD's for the troops which she will gladly pick up for donation.

Greg explained how he at first volunteered for Melanie, but now together they are considering 3 possible ministries; Head Start, CaringBridge and putting together care packages for kids. Greg also expressed how this has been a good experience for them, talking and praying together about the assignment.

I would like to personally thank all our volunteers for having taken the Kingdom Assignment so seriously, spending much time in thought and prayer considering how to best use this money to further God's Kingdom. May we all be so thoughtful in our daily walk with God as we consider how to use the resources with which he has blessed us.

Dave,
Here is the email that you requested.
I used the first $20 to buy and mail a gift. A girl that I graduated from
high school with was having surgery at AGH. Her dad called my family and
asked if I could visit her while she was in the hospital. I purchased a
gift and went to visit her, but when I got to the hospital she had already
been discharged. I mailed a package to her at her home address instead.

The remaining $80 I used to further a ministry in India. Jen Dominy is a
friend from when I was at Teen Mania Ministries. She is currently serving
with Pioneers, a mission organization. She has been in Calcutta, India
for the last 9 months. Jen and her team have been working hard to reach
the street kids in the inner city of Calcutta. She writes in her latest
newsletter...
"Every Sunday our team has been working with street kids. We provide a
lesson for them, singing, crafts, and food. Ages vary from birth to early
teen. All of them (about 120) were meeting together in one space. We
recently divided them by ages and I (Jen) was blessed with the babies and
toddlers! Yea!
We have been able to feed them nutritious food, teach them how to be kids
and just love them. It has been amazing to watch their development in
playing. These kids are trained to beg from birth. This is their one
hour a week to be kids and hear about Jesus.
The program we do with the kids on Sundays is wonderful, but it has been
our goal to help these street kids and their families beyond Sundays. In
order to do this we needed a place for street people to come, a Community
Center.
After much searching we have a flat to rent, we have a Community Center!
Through the Center we desire to reach out and provide a safe place for
street kids and adults to come. It is our goal to provide skills and
training for them, in a safe environment where they feel welcomed and
loved."

After reading this newsletter I felt that this was very similar to the
vision that Greg has for the people of Oakland. People need a safe place
to come where they feel welcomed and loved. A coffee shop in the middle
of Oakland could be a place for students to come to be themselves and
where they learn about Jesus!

I hope that this helps get an idea of what I felt God call me to do to for the Kingdom Assignment. If you have any questions please let me know.

Kelly
